Ask the Sorceress
"I can’t believe you talked me in to this."

Sorceress was giving Ralph a bath, and not the romantic kind. While he was sitting in the tub full of soapy water she was dressed in a baggy T-shirt and sweat pants and had her hair piled up on top of her head, armed with a sponge and a scrub brush.

"Don’t complain, darling. If you bathed more often I wouldn’t need to do this. Now hold still while I wash your back."

"I know."

Even so, he closed his eyes obediently…

She squeezed a good sized amount of shampoo into her palm and started working it through his hair, rubbing his scalp with her fingertips.

That… admittedly felt good.

He stayed still, letting her do her self-appointed job.

She kept going until his hair was full of suds.

"Okay, now we have to rinse it."

He brought his hand up to his forehead, wiping away some that was starting to drip down.

"Ready when you are."

She used some magic to help with this part. With a gesture from her hand the faucet turned on, but instead of pouring water into the tub it flowed up to Ralph’s head and washed the suds out.

"Is it warm enough?"

"I can’t believe you talked me in to this."

As Ralph grew accustomed to the feeling of her scrubbing him top to bottom, he found himself relaxing more.

… Maybe this wasn’t that bad…

She felt his muscles loosening under her hands and smiled.

With his back thoroughly clean, it was time to move on to his front. She rinsed her sponge once more, rubbed some soap on it, and started washing his chest.

He shifted to accommodate her, keeping any remaining complaints to himself.

Her pace remained steady and soothing as she worked her way down his stomach and back up. She glanced up at his face.

"Feeling better, darling?"

"… A little." he admitted.

"Good."

She rinsed out the sponge and repeated the rinsing process until all the suds were gone.

"Now it’s time to do your hair."

He stifled a sigh, shifting once again.

Better to comply and get this over with sooner…

She set the sponge and bucket aside and picked up a bottle of shampoo.

"Keep your eyes closed," she warned. "This stings if it gets in."

"I know."

Even so, he closed his eyes obediently…

If you remember that one time I ended up in Ralph’s place because of a M!A… Never mind. Um… Big fan!” *blushing heavily*))

I bit my lip, worry shining bright in my eyes.

"… I don’t know what to tell you… M!As at least have a time frame, but things like this just… kind of fade out on their own."

Sorceress squeezed herself tighter.

"I don’t understand… Didn’t you bring me here?"

A shake of the head.

"No… I really don’t have any say over you. Just Ralph. The most I can do is make suggestions… And the thing that brought you here? It’s a rebloggable thing. Y’know… ‘Send me x-y-z symbol and I’ll respond as the mun meeting your muse in person’… Something like that."

She frowned.

"Can’t you tell my… my ‘mun’, or whatever they are… to send me back?"

"Like I said, it’s ah… hard to explain…"

Maybe it would be easier if…

I sat down beside her, grabbing a laptop off the end table. Luckily, I almost always had it either up and running or on hibernate nowadays, so it was fairly easy to pull up the different Tumblr blog pages.

Once that was done, I turned it in my lap for her to see.

"Remember how last time I said we were like your ‘guardian angels’…? Putting some thoughts in your head and guiding you along…?"

Sorceress looked from the girl to the laptop suspiciously. This was getting stranger by the minute.

"Yes, I remember…"

"Well, there’s a ton of people who liked the movie - myself included - and… Let me start from the beginning. You see, I just drew a lot of stuff from the movie at first. Ralph, Vanny, Felix, Turbo, King Candy… But I just couldn’t get enough, I loved it so much…! I read stories that other people wrote too, including one called Ghost Boy, by my friend. You met her before too. That was all about how Turbo was reset and how they defeated the malware the first time around… I liked it so much, I started visiting her ask blog for it. And eventually she turned it into a roleplay blog… Basically, she writes out Turbo’s response to other, um… We call you guys ‘muses’. I drew some fanart for her, watched from a distance… and when she wanted someone to roleplay Ralph with her, I jumped at the chance. Now we’re pretty much best friends, and… well, your stories are still going on."

Sorceress only understood half of what she was hearing. Maybe not even that much.

"Wait a minute… So you and your friends are basically… playing with us?"

"No, not…! Not really… Well, um… Sort of. It’s more like… ‘continuing your story’… Without me, the Ralph you know wouldn’t exist… He wouldn’t have gone any further than Turbo-mun’s story, unless she got a different person to, um… write for him."

She was quiet for a moment, pondering this new information seriously.

"So both Ralph and Turbo have someone playing with them… Is there someone doing that with me, too?"

"Yeah, you… You kinda do… I’d introduce you, but she lives in California. And that’s all the way across the country."

She wrapped her arms around herself, suddenly feeling very helpless.

"I want to go home…"

I bit my lip, worry shining bright in my eyes.

The surrounding pedestrians, shocked at first, soon frowned, as if Sorceress had exemplified their worries. “Only she thinks of bringing someone from another game…” “as if Turbo hadn’t done enough…”

The cupcake girl grabbed Sorceress’ hand. “Dun mind them. I was just coded with all the wrong things, and I do stuff like fall into accidents often, and screw things up, and wear clothes that don’t match outta arcade hours. An’ since I dun get chosen too often, either…” she shrugged, adding an imaginary it’s quite the rep all over. “'T was like that even when Turbo was still here. Some people outside think we all had th' wonderful life, but it wasn't like th't. I for one was just too easy to move wherever people wanted.” She sighed. “King Candy said, 'keep the glitch out,' Taffyta said, 'Candlehead, let's go,' and I thought we were in danger, and…” She blinked a few times, stopping an emotional snowstorm. “I drifted off. Jus' don't mind them.”

She cast one more dirty look over her shoulder at the gossiping NPCs. Listening to Candlehead’s story changed her mood significantly. It even looked like the poor child was about to cry. She’d seen that look many times at Bad Anon meetings when her friends were pushed to the breaking point.

"It’s alright, dear," she said, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder. "I know what Turbo did to this place and everyone here. Now that he’s gone you have a chance to start over. So don’t beat yourself up, okay?"

She nodded, regaining her composure slightly. Trubo was still a touchy subject, and she feared so he would stay, at least for a long while. She looked up at Sorceress and tempted to touch her hand, though she never truly did contact. She shook her head. “Dun look at the people, okay? Pretend we’re alone.”

And so, she began walking again, effectively blocking off every bad stare.

Sorceress did her best to cooperate, and she managed pretty well for the most part. At times like these when people were clearly disapproving of her, she recited the Bad Guy affirmation in her mind to distract from it. Maybe she could teach Candlehead a similar strategy later on.

For now she opted to keep quiet and not stir up any more trouble for her.
